ABOUT
ABOUT
Sequoia Stalder is a third-generation custom furniture maker, based in the town of Cold Spring in New York’s Hudson Valley. Sequoia personally designs and builds each piece ordered by his clients using both hand and power tools, emphasizing traditional joinery techniques, and finishing each piece by hand. (All finishes are 100% natural and non-VOC.)
The wood for every piece is carefully selected to emphasize the natural grain and figure, incorporating the unique characteristics of each board into the design itself, allowing for the individuality of each tree to inform the final result. This stands in contrast to many more common furniture-making techniques that utilize milled lumber without consistency of grain and color. Most of Sequoia’s pieces are constructed entirely of wood from an individual log or tree, allowing for a more consistent color and feel, and eliminating the need for artificial stains and dyes, which can often mask the natural beauty and individuality of the wood.
Whenever possible, all pieces are constructed from the highest quality domestic hardwoods, sourced from trees in the Northeastern US that have been felled due to natural causes. Just as every piece Sequoia creates is designed to exist in harmony with the space in which it lives, the sourcing of materials also occurs in harmony with nature.
